INTRO

Adjoining/ Connecting rooms – Adjoining rooms are two guest rooms that are located next to each other but with no door inside to connect them. Connecting rooms have a door on the inside that connects them so guests do not have to step out into the hallway to go to the other room.  They are popular with guests who come with their families or those who are traveling in a group.

Allotment – It is the term used in the Hotel industry to designate a certain block of pre-negotiated rooms which have been bought out and held by a third party (such as a travel organizer, tour operator, travel agent, OTA and etc)

Average Length of Stay (ALOS) – It is the average amount of days guests stay at the hotel during a particular period.

Availability – The amount of vacant rooms a hotel has to sell

Average Daily Rate (ADR) – It is the average price or rate for each hotel room sold for a specific day.

Beach Resort – A Beach Resort is a full service holiday lodging facility, located at the seaside, with access to a private beach. The beach being the primary focus for tourists. MinLOS – Minimum Length of Stay

No Show – A customer with a reservation at a restaurant, hotel, etc. who fails to show up and does not cancel.

Occupancy – It is the percentage of rooms sold for a certain period of time. Basically it tells you how full or empty the hotel is.

Online Travel Agency (OTA) – OTAs are online companies whose websites allow consumers to book various travel related services directly via Internet. They are 3rd party agents reselling trips, hotels, cars, flights, vacation packages etc. provided or organized by others.

Overbooking – Overbooking occurs when more rooms are booked than availability. Overbooking is done based on estimating the number of no-show reservations, under stays, walk-ins and stayovers, in order to meet 100% occupancy

Property Management System (PMS) – It is a local hotel administration system used for reservation, availability and occupancy management, check-in/out, images, guest profiles, report generation etc. This application is used in-house (in an individual hotel) to control the onsite property activities.

Rack Rate – The rate accommodations quote to the public. Group rates, convention, trade show, meeting and incentive travel rates are negotiated by the hotel and program organizers.

Rate Parity – It’s a way for an independent hotel or a chain of them to set the same price for each of their room types across all of their distribution channels. It is through these channels that rooms and services are advertised (through the hotel’s brand website, on Social Media platforms, via high street and online travel agencies etc.)

Single Room – A standard hotel room designed for only 1 person, usually with a single bed

Site Inspection – An assessment tour of a destination or facility by a meeting planner, convention or trade show manager, site selection committee, tour operator, wholesaler or incentive travel manager to see if it meets their needs and requirements prior to selecting a specific site for an event. After site selection, a site inspection may be utilized to make arrangements.

Suite – A suite is a much larger accommodation than a standard room with one or multiple connected bedrooms and bathrooms.
